Your support for the Friends of the Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park (SBOLDP) makes it possible for us to continue to serve as advocates on behalf of the park and the dogs and people who use it to the Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Department, the Los Angeles City Council and other organizations in our area. With city dollars stretched thinner and thinner, the support provided by individual and business members of the Friends of SBOLDP means that grass and trees in the park are well maintained; special events such as Holiday Photos with Santa can be organized and held at the park; and that amenities such as park benches can be bought and installed with matching funds.

Just a sample of the activities that the Friends of SBOLDP have advocated for or helped organize are:

  • Uncovering an account with $24,000 in donations that had been dormant for 5 years. $16,000 was used to help trim the park’s many beautiful trees.
  • Advocated for the planting of over 20 trees and kept them alive with weekly watering during their critical first years during the drought.
  • Reseeding and re-sodding.
  • Replacing backed up drains and old spigots with state-of-the-art water fountains for dogs and people.
  • Removal of the no parking signs (many meetings with city officials, LAPD and RAP) on the grass bordering Victory Blvd. and help with contesting tickets on that grass area.
  • Designed and persuaded RAP to install signs warning that un-neutered dogs were not allowed.
  • Persisting over a 5 year period presenting a proposal of Todd Jones’ Eagle Scout project of building agility courses. Recreation and Parks Michael A Shull gave us a green light soon after becoming General Manager and within 24 hours of receiving the proposal, on a Saturday! We then help find and fund the 2 Boy Scouts that completed 3 courses, one in each side of the park. Earning them both their Eagle Scout rank.
  • Holding a Solar Eclipse event at the Park event on Aug. 21, 2017, providing protective eye gear.
  • Organizing events such the popular Holiday Photos with Santa and spring adoption event with radio pet expert Warren Eckstein.
